Monitoring the levels in storage tanks is a critical aspect in the circulation of liquid media, such as cutting fluids in machine tools or during the transfer of liquids into or out of tanks. Such monitoring can be realized through simple on/off mechanisms for pumps using float switches or optoelectronic level switches. However, often continuously measuring level probes are used, which are based on the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid in the tank, to control variable-speed pumps for energy-efficient operation.

In all cases, the requirement for installation is that once installed, it reliably functions without further effort. It must be resistant to various liquids and must not be affected by solids. This is especially true for float switches or level probes.
